So you have decided to take a trip overseas, but before you get to overwhelmed by the allure of travel there are some things that need to be addressed. How much will my trip cost?
Determining the total cost of your trip is as simple as 1, 2, 3 & 4, flights, transfers, insurance & incidentals. The main thing is not to overthink the process of calculating a budget, remember that you are using this as a guideline. For the purpose of this I will use The Way of St James tour as an example.
Let’s Break Down Trip Cost
Flights
A travellers choice is almost limitless with a massive amount of websites and smart phone apps dedicated to finding the best deals on flights. For the St James tour you can fly into either Paris or Lyon. Great deals can be found on any of these website Webjet, Skyscanner & Cheap Flights.
Transfers, Rail & Bus
Depending on your initial starting point for your trip you may need to take a transfer, train or bus to get where you need to be.
Rail Europe
If you fly into Paris it will just be a matter of making your train or taking a day in the city of lights before deaprting from Gare Du Lyon train station in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. The pricing to get from Paris to Le-Puy-en-Velay can range from $135AUD to $230AUD. Of course this is partly dependent upon day of the week, time of day and first or second class bookings. Paris Gare Du Lyon to Le Puy-en-Velay – $100-$165AUD & Lyon to Le Puy-en-Velay – $35-$65AUD
Insurance
In this day and age it is almost a certain that you will obtain travel insurance. But of course we need to be mindful of where we are travelling to and the activities we will be undertaking. We have found that Travel Insurance Direct to be a good supplier that can accomodate for hiking or trekking trips within reason. Of course if you were to be tackling the himalayas it would be a different story and further research would be needed.
A customer can pickup 14 days coverage for Europe for $110 using Travel Insurance Direct, or a more comprehensive insurance package.
Incidentals
How long is a piece of string is probably the best way to answer this because at the end of the day we need to account for many things. These would include things such as day-to-day items plus spending money on additional food or gifts for friends and family.
In conclusion the trip cost can be fairly small or fairly extravagant. It is all a matter of what you type of trip you want and what sacrifices you may be willing to make.
